FAQs

Are transfers included?

It is your responsibility to be at our trip starting point in Gustavus, Alaska on Sunday, July 10, 2022 (see Travel & Logistics). A complimentary arrival transfer to Annie Mae Lodge is available for guests arriving in Gustavus on Alaska Airlines Flight AS 71. We will reach out prior to our trip to confirm your arrival time in Gustavus.

On our last day, Modern Adventure will arrange a complimentary transfer from our hotel to the Juneau International Airport (JNU). Your flight should depart from JNU at 12:30pm or later. Otherwise, please note that it is your responsibility to arrange alternative transportation from our hotel to the airport.

What if I have special dietary needs?

Traveling with dietary restrictions or allergies can be a challenge, but we’re here to help. Prior to your departure, we’ll send you a questionnaire where you can inform us of any special dietary needs you have. Depending on the information you give us, we will work with our Alaska partners to adjust menus and be aware of allergies and restrictions on the trip.

What about supplements if I am traveling solo?

Accommodation pricing is based on double occupancy (two adults per room). This can mean two guests traveling together, or two solo travelers of the same gender paired as roommates. When occupancy is not double, a room becomes "single," which results in a single supplement charge to account for the difference in price. If you are willing to share a room (and a tent, on the two nights we are camping), we will do our best to pair you with another solo guest of the same gender. If we are unable to pair you with another solo guest, or if you would like your own room, you will need to pay the single supplement fee of $1,000.

Who is this trip appropriate for?

This experience is for anybody with a passion for wildlife and the outdoors. Southeast Alaska’s Glacier Bay and Icy Straits are renown for raw natural beauty, with extremely limited access. This is a rare opportunity to explore the region’s stunning sites by water and by land, perfect for photographers with a passion for the outdoors, and anybody looking to explore the wilds of Alaska in style. We stay in boutique hotels and comfortable lodges, and camp fully supported for two nights with all gear and camp cooking provided.

How difficult is this trip?

This is considered a moderately easy outdoor adventure. We’ll travel by land, sea and helicopter. We’ll have the opportunity for day hikes, and a hike using crampons on a glacier. We’ll camp fully supported (including tents, gear and a camp cook) for two nights. Our kayaking is in inland open waters, and accessible for people of all skill levels.

These activities and locations may present challenges to persons with special needs or physical limitations. Neither Modern Adventure nor any of its suppliers may physically lift or assist travelers onto transportation or on daily activities. If you have questions or concerns about particular activities or trip aspects, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

What is the cancellation policy?

You may cancel on or before March 12, 2022 and receive a full refund minus a $500 per-person service fee. If you cancel on or after March 13, 2022 there is a 50% cancellation fee. On or after May 11, 2022 there is a 100% cancellation fee. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance as we are not able to make exceptions to this policy in cases of family/medical emergency or of the trip being canceled (see our Terms and Conditions for full details).
